Record Breaking Silver Takes the Valdez Alaska
Silver Salmon Derby; Ontario Man Wins Truck
When Derek Werder of Valdez pulled in a 22.14 pound silver salmon August 23; he figured he had a pretty good chance of taking the $15,000 first place prize in the Valdez Silver Salmon Derby. “Well, for the last thirty years, there has only been one fish over 20 pounds, so I feel pretty confident”, Werder said. Just over a week later, with the Derby at a close, it is no surprise that Werder’s record winning fish stayed at the top of the leader board. When asked what he would do with his prize winnings, Werder responded "We are definitely going to take care of some bills." Read more >>>
Lindsie King Wins the 2008 Women's Derby
Congratulations to our 2008 Queen of the Silver Salmon Sisterhood, Lindsie King! Her fish toppled the scales at 17.54 pounds. We've got names, photos and weights of the top 50 female anglers of the derby online, so have a look!

Congratulations to our Big Prize Friday winners!
Weighing in with a 17.98 lb silver on Friday, August 29th, Heidi Stark of Fairbanks, AK, won the Big Prize - an inflatable raft (courtesy of Marita Sea & Ski). Our other big winner, John Strang of Valdez, Alaska, also scored a raft with his 14.40 lb fish caught on August 1st.
